Choose Casper

If you’ve been following us since the beginning or if you’re brand new to the 5150’ Local crew, there’s a good chance you know one thing…

We love it here.

Like, A LOT.

You may have noticed we’ve been quiet for the last few months, but behind the scenes we’ve been working tirelessly on something that sets our souls on FIRE. We’ve partnered up with some of our fellow local-loving Casperites to build something really special.

The truth is, the world looks a lot different than it did the last time you heard from us.

And it turns out, Casper is what a lot of people just like us are looking for, now more than ever.

Open spaces.

Friendly locals.

Room to breathe.

Professional opportunity.

Real community.

And the best of Wyoming literally in our backyard.

People want to live here. Work here. Build businesses, families and futures here.

And we want them here, too.

So we’ve teamed up with some of our favorite people to create a new movement: Choose Casper.

Choose Casper is a website and resource dedicated to helping people make the best move of their lives. On the site users will find information on schools, real estate, parks and recreation, cost of living and a lot more. Plus, they can connect directly with some like-minded locals with similar interests who can show them the ropes of living, working and playing in the Oil City.

To kick off this new movement, over the next couple of months, we’re going to use our social media channels share some stories of people who fell in love with our town and chose to relocate or who were born here and chose to stay. We’re going to share why they decided to Choose Casper, the places they love, their favorite resources for getting acquainted with Casper, and their best tips for being a local of 5150’. Follow along here and here.

Even if you’ve been a local your whole life, we encourage you to stick around and read what your neighbors have to say. Casper and the stories in our community always have a way of surprising even the longest-term residents.

Now, you might be thinking, “Hey, stop telling everyone about how amazing Casper is. I don’t want people coming from all over and ruining it.” (Listen, we’ve read the comment section of the local news. The idea of Casper growing isn’t always the most popular idea.)

We are the very first to say we want to preserve and protect the amazing things about our corner of the world. We don’t want Casper to be the next Jackson Hole or Denver. And the truth is, Casper has a lot of room to grow and space to develop without becoming the next over-populated mountain town of the west. And in that space is so. much. opportunity.

Some of the best things to happen to Casper have come from “outsiders” falling in love with this place and deciding that it is where they want to put down roots. The best thing we can do to turn outsiders into fellow Oil City advocates, who are wildly passionate about the place they choose to live, too.

Now that we are all on the same page, you might be thinking, “How can I help?”

  1. If you know someone who loves this place that should call Casper home, send them this link:
  2. Read and share the stories we’ll be sharing in the coming weeks with your friends near and far. Share on Facebook, email, print them out and pass them around the office.
  3. Share the love. Review Casper on sites like,, and to share what your adore and appreciate about this place. A quick google search of doesn’t always reflect the reality of what it’s like to live here. We’re looking at you, local news comment thread dwellers…
  4. Have an awesome story to tell? Reach out! We’re always looking for local guest bloggers, Instagram takeovers and feature stories.

We know that Casper is not a perfect town, but we also know that the opportunities here – to learn and grow, to be yourself and better yourself – are unlimited.

Choose Casper is a collaborative effort of locals who love Casper as is and want to see it reach it’s fullest potential. Partners include Advance Casper, Flowstate, True Companies, the Economic Development Joint Powers Board and Visit Casper.
