You know when you’re looking at a recipe on Pinterest and all you really care about is the recipe…
But the blogger makes sure to tell you their whoooole life story.
Then you have to scroll through a half a dozen pictures.
And a video.
And an ad for a new cookbook you can download RIGHT NOW.
Then their dog’s medical history.
And what their kids are up to.
And their tips for maintaining your ideal weight during the holidays.
Well today, I think you deserve better.
So, I’m going to get right to it and give you exactly what you came here for… the end-all-be-all, gotta-have, gotta-read 2019 Downtown Casper Gift guide. (It’s our take on where to shop to be the kings and queens of gift giving this year!)
Western Wear and Decor
If you have a friend or family member that loooves all things covered in leather, turquoise and denim, look no further than Lou Taubert Ranch Outfitters, Cadillac Cowgirl and Sierra West. With jewelry, hats, boots, apparel and decor, these three locally-loved shops are a home run.
Chances are, you’re thinking about some kind of apparel gift for at least someone on your shopping list. Floral Rhino, WyoMade, Fashion Crossroads, RW Taubert and Steamboat Outlet should be some of your first stops. Pro tip: Floral Rhino and WyoMade both sell Surf Wyoming and other local brands and Steamboat Outlet is the king of all Wyoming everything.
Sometimes gift cards get a bad rap for being a cop out, but we’re not talking about a gift card to somewhere practical to buy toilet paper here, folks. Get someone a gift that will remind them of you as they’re doing something they LOVE – like getting their morning coffee at Metro, Scarlow’s or the Bourgeois Pig. Or getting a much-needed massage. Or even when they’re taking their family ice skating at David Street Station. Or as they’re enjoying Nutella bites at Racca’s. Done right, gift cards might be the most underrated gift… ever.
Let’s be honest. Is a Casper gift guide is complete without Backwards Distilling Company? We think not. If spirits aren’t your style or you have a long line of libation-lovers on your list, we recommend a trip to Wyoming Bootlegger Liquor to find local beer (have you heard Gruner Brothers is selling cans?!), wine and, of course, Backwards products.
Art, Music and Books
There’s nothing more thoughtful than getting someone a great book, an album they’d love or a custom piece of art. Enter: Wind City Books, Sonic Rainbow. I could honestly spend literal hours wandering around these two downtown staples until they kicked me out. If you’re looking for something custom, 307 Metal Works has amazing one-of-a-kind signs and art made from local steel. You can even get something made to order.
Nothing says Merry Christmas like a new pair of showshoes or a new fly rod If your shopping list includes some outdoor junkies, Gear Up and Get Out There, Mountain Sports and 42 Degrees North all offer amazing selections of outdoor gear and apparel. If you have an angler on your list, look no further than Ugly Bug Fly Shop. While you’re at The Bug – as the cool kids call it – check out some of the art by local maker Ty Hollock.
I think the moral of the story is that you can find almost anything in downtown Casper. Bonus: the first-ever downtown Jingle & Mingle takes place this weekend (Saturday, November 30) and will be one so of the best shopping days of the year. Read all about that here.
