What’s the deal with Parade Day?

Ok, Casper. I love parades as much as the next person. And I have a serious affinity for marching bands. But parade day in Casper is kind of hard to put into words…

I’ve looked high and low with no luck as to why or how this magical day has won over the hearts of the community.

Here are the facts: every July, the Central Wyoming Fair and Rodeo kicks off rodeo events with a parade through the streets of downtown. This is a 70+ year-old tradition for Casper. And for just this one day, most of the city shuts down and celebrates the summer in Casper.

Seriously. This. city. shuts. down.

Casper’s fittest hit the streets first at the annual Casper Chase.

Offices city-wide close early and the bars open in time to take their place.

Downtown floods with excited, sunscreen slathered Casperites of all ages.

Every single political candidate sits on in the back of a car and we can finally put a face to the lawn signs.

Fire trucks spraying the crowds become the stars of the show as the sun gets higher in the sky.

And for a couple of hours in the summer, we all come together as the epic community that we are.

Sometimes, great things don’t need an explanation. But when you’re here, you get it.

Check out the 2019 parade route below.
